Create a sense of urgency
If there's an impression that someone might miss out, they're more likely to want in on the action
Urgency can look like lots of things
Think limited-time offers. Think exclusive deals. Think countdowns to promote (gasp) FOMO. Think scarcity. Think personalisation offers (directed at a person in particular).
Just focus on making the action you’re asking be required now, not later, and you’re on your way!
Missed advertising often stems from being forgotten
Life is busy for everyone. The sense of urgency you see throughout ad spheres isn’t necessarily that we actually believe there is only 5 minutes to ‘confirm your cart’, but that it is promoting action now. If they don’t act now they might forget about it when the next life-challenge pops up.
Urgency captures attention
It’s not so much that the cart will be gone in 5 minutes (it won’t), it’s that you now have a little bit more of their attention. And that’s only for the gimmicky ones. The sexy ones, exclusivity, personalisation, scarcity – these all grab even more attention, again!
While we’re on the subject of personalisation...
Loyalty is a massive by-product of personalising your ‘limited’ promotions. Use their name, build that relationship, reach out with ways you’re doing them a favour with your offer. Make it memorable and reap the long-term rewards.
Encourage the ‘now’
