Myth: Good design is about making things look pretty
Is it enough to just look better than the competition?
Good design is about functionality
Good design (like, really good design) tries to prioritise usability and practicality to enhance the user’s experience. Looking good is fire, but it also has to function effectively otherwise it’s not doing its real job, making things easier/better/more effective (insert adjective here).
Good design is about Communication
Good design is an epic tool for conveying your brand’s message and values. It goes far beyond pretty pictures and sexy fonts in an effort to tell a story, evoke emotions (this one’s killer), and create connections with the audience.
Good design is about Driving actions
Really good design motivates its viewers to take specific actions. Think: Making a purchase (nice). Signing up for a service (also nice). Or engaging with content (again, nice). An effectively designed piece of collateral will guide user behaviour with its use of strategic placements and intuitive design elements.
Don’t settle for bad design make sure it’s working for you!
