Personalise Direct contact
Make every contact with a customer feel more special!
The details you collect for your newsletter can go a long way
That’s the long game of brands collecting details. It’s not just a list of email addresses, it’s a list of people you know have some interest in what you sell, so make sure you use that to make them feel at home with your brand!
A personalised email does a lot, for little effort
Your email will immediately stand above the rest if you make it more personal. ‘Alex, we guarantee you’ll sleep better with our sale products!’ is going to be better received than ‘Sleep product sale’. Customers get a better experience, feel more connected and are more likely to convert. Boom.
Step 1: get names
We won’t go into what your newsletter offering is, only what you should collect, minimum. We suggest (on top of the email address, obviously), that you ask for a first name or preferred name. The more you ask for, the less likely they’ll sign up so don’t go overboard, but those willing to leave a name will already be better prospects.
Pro tip: If you just put ‘name’, they might be tempted to put their full name, which might lead to more work for you later! Stick to first name for the best results.
Step 2: use names conversationally
Don’t overuse their name and think of your promotions as though you’re talking to them directly. Use it in the introduction and within your pitch. All good email marketing platforms will allow you to use something like {first.name} to put the name into the subject (perfect) and the meat of your pitch. Keep it light, keep it personal and your promotions will strike harder.
Don’t limit this to email promotions
Messaging on Facebook? Use their name. Reaching out on a cold-email? Name. Pitching them over the phone? Definitely name.
This is a tool of trust. It shows that you consider them a priority and if you can connect with them, you become less the ‘salesperson’ and more the ‘friend helping out!’
A name is a strong connection. They’re an easy way to build relationships with all your outgoing messaging!
