Storytelling across different SOCIAL channels
Each social media channel has their own atmosphere. Should you be creating different messages for the different places you appear?
The opportunities
Every social media channel owns a space. There’s overlap, for sure, but they’ve all cemented themselves (for now) in their niches and it’s important is how take advantage of these niches. How can your message shift from channel to channel to tell the right story to the right people? Your promotions might be the same, but if you’re targeting the audience in a more concise way, you’ll see much better traction! We’ll talk more about each social channel in a minute.
The costs
It takes time to specialise ads. It’s getting faster to ‘resize’ the same ad for different placements (whether that’s social, digital, print etc.), but to tweak that headline? Find the right image? Time when they appear? That’s the cost of great ads.
However, what if you put the same ad on each? Honestly, you still get the exposure, brand recognition and messaging. It comes down to your message and its effectiveness vs cost. A simple message might not need the extra work.
Visual storytelling
Video, gorgeous imagery, creativity and ‘WOW’. This is messaging at a glance. Capture the imagination of your viewers quickly with scroll-stopping headlines and flair, then get their details or send them down your rabbit hole to your preferred result.
Longer-form content
Now we’re looking at links and a little more opportunity to dig deeper with your message. People are more likely to stop and read (assuming you’ve caught them) and you can more easily send them to your blog via a quick summary or list of benefits they might relate to.
The professional angle
People inside LinkedIn are more likely to be in ‘work mode’. This is their haven for professional development and connections. Make your message about the benefits to their career-self and delve a little deeper into insights and the expertise you bring.
TikTok
Creative short-stories
TikTok is all about speed, creativity and fun. There are great opportunities to use music and your connection with the TikTok demographic to create relatable messaging that boosts your brand recognition and encourages them to engage.
X / Twitter
Short messages
The character limits on X mean you’ve got to get straight to the point. Think about what your message really needs to be and if you need more ‘room’ to talk, consider how you can split it. Turn it from bite-size to a narrative that flows over several tweets.
Snapchat
Messages in the moment
As the messages disappear, they need to be engaging enough to act right now if you’re looking for an action – good news is the platform naturally encourages real-time-engagement.
Otherwise, think of your snaps as a chance to show off your brand, go behind-the-scenes or ask questions of your audience.
Now it’s up to you. What will your messages look like across your social channels or do they even need to be different?
