Use strong headlines
Sounds obvious, right? You still see a lot of ads with 'we do X' as the headline, though. Be relevant
Strong headlines can mean a few things
A strong headline doesn’t mean it’s got a loud font; it means it’s attractive to readers, it’s relevant, shows some value and maybe adds a little intrigue! Let’s explore these in a little more detail
Be clear & concise
Strong headlines aren’t long headlines. Get the message across at a glance; they’re a window to your offer or message. If prospective clients can register your offer quickly while scrolling or passing by then they’re more likely to stop, read and act. If it’s not immediately clear what you’re talking about, people move on. Stand out
Use powerful words & language
There are words you can exploit to make your message more action-oriented. Words like Transform, Maximise or Discover. How can you incorporate words like these that add an emotional aspect to your headline? Words that will leave viewers wanting to know more. Google ‘action-oriented words’ for more examples!
Highlight value early
Early examples of the value your offer has can be a great way to make that headline pop. ‘SALE’ is good, but it’s lost a lot of lustre. ‘ROCK BOTTOM PRICES’ is better. It’s got more punch and it shows that the sale isn’t your average ‘gimmick’ offering
Generate a little intrigue for people
Can you make the headline more of a teaser into your offering? Can it be reworded as a pointed question directed at your ideal customer? Can you share some stats to make people stop and pay attention? Can you hint at a story to create those emotional links we love?
Test your messages
Look, you’ll struggle to use ALL the above tips in one concise headline, so make one using each! Split the cost of the ads between them and see which ones people click on. Not only will you learn more about these ads, but you’ll probably get more insight into your target market, too!
Reap the benefits of a strong headline
